For two years in a row, South Lyon County USD 252 made history by earning all eight educational awards from the Kansas Education Department. These include:

About Lyon County Schools
Lyon County has three public primary and secondary school districts servicing kindergarten through 12th grade. Those are North Lyon County U.S.D. #251, which serves north rural Lyon County and the communities of Admire, Americus and Reading. South Lyon County U.S.D. #252, which serves south rural Lyon County and the communities of Olpe, Neosho Rapids and Hartford. Emporia School District U.S.D. #253 serves the city of Emporia. Two parochial schools are located in Emporia – Emporia Christian School which serves preschool through 8th grade and Sacred Heart School which is preschool through 5th grade. North Lyon County Public Schools USD #251
The purpose of USD 251 North Lyon County Schools is to establish a community of learning through building relationships, accountability, and integrity by challenging all students to maximize their learning and future success.
South Lyon County Public Schools USD #252
The Southern Lyon Coumty USD #252 schools' purpose is to assure that students have a solid foundation in the core academic areas. These schools will also assure that students maintain personal wellness, develop citizenship skills and explore career and technical education opportunities. Students will develop 21st century skills and an appreciation for the fine arts.

Sacred Heart Catholic School
Sacred Heart Catholic School has been committed to promoting faith and excellence for elementary school students in the Emporia area for over 125 years. Currently serving students from Kindergarten to fifth grade, Sacred Heart is driven by the desire for discipleship and excellence for every child.
Emporia Christian School
The school’s primary goals are to develop academic excellence, moral integrity, and spiritual depth. Christian precepts and teachings are presented as an integral part of the curriculum. To accomplish this mission, we purpose to do the following:
- Help our students to develop a close personal walk and relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Educate and nurture future Christian leaders.
