The Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad serves Lyon County and the City of
Emporia. Dual main track lines support up to 80 intermodal trains daily.

Highway bus service is available. Highways serving the Emporia area are the Kansas Turnpike, Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 50, Kansas 99 and Kansas 57. Thirteen motor freight carriers serve the Emporia community.
The Emporia Municipal Airport (KEMP) is located four miles south of the city limits.

Commercial air passenger service is available at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport 96 miles from Emporia. Ten carriers and thirty daily flights are available there.
Kansas City International Airport is located 126 miles from Emporia via interstate highways. Thirteen major carriers provide 250 daily flights with numerous non-stop direct flights to most of the major airport hubs. Kansas City International has nine air cargo carriers with nineteen daily flights. |
